Different animal species have adapted to a wide variety of diets in order to occupy niches in their communities. Much can be learned through comparative anatomy, by looking at how each species’ digestive system is structured. Zoos are storehouses of information when it comes to studying the very best in animal nutrition. In this activity, you will make observations of different animal morphologies, form hypotheses about what role the species plays in the food web, and design a biologically appropriate diet for a select species based on its own dietary needs.
